Acting as a support to ITER, a project of worldwide significance, the WEST platform offers numerous possibilities to all ITER stakeholders, industrial and academic partners on both a national and international scale. Collaboration agreements have already been concluded with several partners who wished to join the project as early as the implementation phase of WEST. The platform is now open to the scientific community and industrialists in its operational phase.
WEST is an excellent test platform for preparing the implementation of ITER and its scientific operation. It is enable both domestic agencies in charge of supplying elements and companies involved in their production to validate certain components in conditions close to those of ITER before their actual delivery to the ITER Organization: the focus is put on the divertor components; WEST can enable researchers to make tangible progress in many technological fields: measurement instruments, material resistance but it is also lead to a thorough understanding of the physical phenomena linked to fusion.
Thus, many laboratories of the Research Federation on Magnetic Fusion (FR-FCM) which includes a total of approximately forty laboratories throughout France are already involved in the WEST Project.
Here are just a few of them for example:
Some diagnostics have been developed in partnership with these laboratories.
The Research Federation has also been eagerly called upon to elaborate the scientific programme in which it now participates actively.
The département des Bouches-du-Rhône is supporting the WEST project with a grant of 1.5 M€. This support was mainly focused on systems for the divertor, the plasma facing components and the instrumentation area.
The WEST Project is supported by the European Regional Development Fund (Feder), which is recognized as playing a significant role in the reinforcement of the scientific and technological potential territorial to the service of the growth and employment. The starting phase of the project was supported by a first grant of 1.750 M€, while the second phase was supported by an additional grant of 1.074 M€.

The WEST project is supported by the Région Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur with a grant of 550 k€. This support is mainly focused on the water loop cooling system upgrade.
WEST has received a support of 550k€ from the French Ministery of National Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research (MENESR)
