On November 19, 2019, Xavier GARBET received the Fernand Holweck Prize from the hands of the President of the IOP, Jonathan Flint, and in the presence of Sylvie Rousset, Vice-President of the SFP, during a very official ceremony in London. This prize rewards Xavier Garbet, Physicist at the Institute for Magnetic Fusion Research (IRFM), Research Director at CEA, officer of the Order of Academic Palms and CNRS silver medal, for his contribution on the understanding of turbulence, transport and instabilities in fusion plasmas. Jonathan Flint gave him the medal, with the effigy of the physicist Fernand Howelck, during a ceremony held at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London. The prize is awarded every year alternately to an English scientist by the French Physical Society (SFP), and to a French scientist by the Institute of Physics (IOP). The day before Xavier Garbet presented a conference at the Culham Science Center entitled "Turbulent transport in fusion - a brief history", retracing 40 years of research on the subject. He will present this conference again at the IRFM on January 16, 2020. |
