On September 22, the partners of SIFFER (Sino-French Fusion Energy centeR) celebrated together, via video, the latest deliveries of tungsten components for the new WEST divertor (PFU for plasma Facing Units) manufactured in China.

The assembly of the two first full tungsten sectors is now completed.

What's up on WEST side ?

The first batch of divertor components has been delivered to Cadarache despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

A physicist position is open in the IRFM Integrated Modelling, Heating and Scenarios Group (GMICS), in charge of experiments and analysis of impurity control in metallic wall tokamak discharges. In the short term, the core of the activity will be to prepare, lead and analyze experiments aiming at optimizing the plasma composition in the WEST tokamak. In the longer term, strategies to optimize the impurity content of future devices will be addressed (ITER in particular).

From mid-February to mid-March, CEA-IRFM organised again the Cadarache Winter event for the Master Students of the European program FUSION EP and of the French FEDERATION SCIENCES PLASMAS FUSION.

The IRFM is hiring a master/engineering/PhD degree in electromagnetism or Radio-Frequency. She/he be involved in the experimental campaigns on WEST, with the aim to optimize the coupled RF power to the plasma. A significant part of your work will be dedicated to RF modelling and data analysis.

CEA and US-DOE (US Department of Energy) signed an Implementing Arrangement (IA) on Fusion Science and Technology in March 2020 under the frame of cooperation in Low Carbon Energy Technologies. The Implementing Arrangement is focusing on the exploitation of WEST particularly.

The IRFM is hiring a responsible officer for the conditionning of the WEST tokamak vacuum vessel. He/She will implement the vessel conditioning strategy and perform the analyses to obtain the required conditions for carrying out plasma experiments.
