  André Samain was a bright and creative physicist, who pioneered several fields of research related to magnetic confinement fusion. His abundant scientific production covers a broad spectrum of topics such as MHD stability, transport processes, plasma/wall interaction (most notably ergodic divertors), RH heating and superconductivity. He was particularly interested in irreversible processes and time arrow until his last breath.

The 27th European Fusion Programme Workshop (EFPW27) will be organised by CEA and it will take place in Moulin de Vernègues, France, from Tuesday 3 to Thursday 5 December 2019.

A joint team for ITER divertor test in WEST has been established between IO and CEA.

The C4 campaign started early July and will continue until mid-October with 15 days of interruption mid-August.

Zhibin Guo, presently associate professor at Peking University, is the winner of the 2019 "René Pellat Festival Memorial Prize". The prize was awarded by Dr. Alain Bécoulet, head of the IRFM Institute (CEA), in the presence of Zoe Pellat, granddaughter of the scientist René Pellat. Haihong Che was the first winner of the prize in 2017.

On Monday, July 1st, the 10th Theory Festival welcomed young researchers and experienced physicists, to the Faculty of Arts, Literature, Languages and human Sciences of Aix en Provence for the opening presentation by Ed Ott.

The head of the Doctoral School of Physics and Materials Science of Aix Marseille University rewarded Peter Donnel with the PhD Thesis prize on June 13th 2019.

During the annual ceremony, organised in Luminy on June 13th 2019, Alberto Gallo was awarded with the PhD Thesis Prize of the Doctoral School of Physics and Materials Science (352) of the Aix-Marseille University.

The 6th Meeting of the WEST Governing Board gathered WEST partners on the 17th of May at the Château de Cadarache.

On January 22nd, 2019, CEA transferred to F4E and simultaneously F4E transferred to QST the ownership of the five Power Supplies for five Superconducting Magnets that was the last part of the French contribution to the JT-60SA project.

After an intensive experimental campaign, WEST is now in shutdown for several weeks to prepare the next scientific experiments.
