WEST shutdown Number 3

After an intensive experimental campaign, WEST is now in shutdown for several weeks to prepare the next scientific experiments. Lot of work inside and outside the vacuum vessel is planned from January to April : installation of the third ICRH antenna, insertion of 2 additional ITER-like plasma facing units in the lower divertor, installation of new diagnostics, plasma facing components cleaning, leak detection, etc. IRFM’s technicians and engineers have a very intricate scheduling with many different tasks. Meanwhile physicists are delving into fresh experimental data in order to sharpen the scenarios towards H-mode plasmas.

The objective is to resume experiments in May.
