1st WEST Experiment Planning Meeting
The Institute of Research on Magnetic Fusion (IRFM) of CEA and the Aix Marseille University are pleased to invite you to join the 1st WEST Experiment Planning Meeting, to be held in Cadarache, France, April 18-20, 2016.
The WEST project (W-tungsten Environment in Steady-state Tokamak) is targeted at minimizing risks for the ITER tungsten divertor procurement and operation, as well as mastering integrated plasma scenarios over long pulses in a metallic environment. It consists of implementing a divertor configuration and installing an ITER like actively cooled tungsten divertor in the Tore Supra tokamak, taking full benefit of its long pulse capability. The WEST platform will be run as a user facility, open to the ITER partners. First plasma is expected in fall 2016.
An international call for experimental and modelling proposals has been launched for the first phase of WEST exploitation in January 2016 (for more information, see the WEST users web portal ). The objective of the workshop is for the participants to contribute to building the WEST scientific program for 2016-2017, using the proposals received as a basis.
International fusion experts will chair the discussion along topical headlines, together with experts from ITER Organization and domestic agencies in charge of procuring the ITER divertor. The output of the meeting will be used as a basis to produce the main lines of the experimental timeline for the 2016-2017 campaigns, to be presented for approval at the coming WEST International Governing Board (May 2016).
For more details on the meeting agenda, see the scientific programme section.
We look forward to welcoming you in Cadarache !
